SAD NEWS: MASTERCHEF STAR DIES AT JUST 44 AFTER HEARTBREAKING BRAIN TUMOUR DIAGNOSIS
Mariusz Komenda, the much-loved MasterChef Poland semi-finalist, has died at 44 after a devastating battle with a malignant brain tumour. His death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fellow contestants, colleagues and fans who remember him for his passion, warmth and love of cooking.
The culinary world is mourning Mariusz Komenda, whose journey on MasterChef Poland introduced his talent and personality to viewers across the country.
Komenda died on October 7, 2026, following months of treatment for a malignant brain tumour. His death was confirmed by TVN, the broadcaster behind the programme, which remembered him as a man full of passion, energy and love for cooking.
A DIAGNOSIS THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
Komenda’s health battle began in January 2026, when he was admitted to hospital with symptoms initially suspected to be caused by a stroke.
Medical examinations revealed a malignant brain tumour in the right thalamus, a region deep within the brain. He subsequently underwent two major operations, radiotherapy and intensive rehabilitation.
In March, he shared the news of his diagnosis publicly, describing the experience as the hardest fight of his life.
A fundraising campaign was launched to help cover the costs of treatment, medication, examinations, rehabilitation and travel for specialist care. Friends, neighbours and members of his local community rallied around him as he faced the difficult months ahead
THE CHEF WHO WON VIEWERS’ HEARTS
Komenda became known to a wider audience in 2019, when he competed in the eighth season of MasterChef Poland and reached the semi-finals.
His appearance on the programme opened new doors in the culinary world. He later returned to the show, sharing his knowledge and experience with other contestants.
Away from television, he continued pursuing his dream of building a career around food. He opened Sztuka Restaurant in his hometown of Środa Śląska and, in 2025, launched the Father & Son restaurant with his son, Mateusz.
For Komenda, cooking was more than a profession. It was a passion he continued to pursue while building a future with his family.
“GOODBYE, BROTHER” — FRIENDS PAY TRIBUTE
Following news of his death, heartfelt messages poured in from those who knew him through the competition.
Grzegorz Zawierucha, winner of the 2019 season, shared an emotional farewell to his friend, struggling to find words to express his grief.
Fellow contestant Mateusz Krojenka also paid tribute, remembering Komenda’s infectious smile.
The MasterChef Poland team said it was difficult to find words to express its sadness, adding that he would be remembered for his enthusiasm, energy and love of cooking.
Their messages reflect the impact Komenda made beyond the kitchen — on the people who competed alongside him, worked with him and followed his journey.
A FATHER, RESTAURATEUR AND PASSIONATE COOK
Komenda’s life extended far beyond his television appearances.
He was a restaurateur who continued to develop his culinary ambitions and a father who shared a business venture with his son.
The opening of Father & Son in 2025 represented another chapter in his career, bringing together his passion for food and his family life.
His death at just 44 has left loved ones and fans reflecting on a life marked by ambition, creativity and a determination to keep going through extraordinary challenges.
A LEGACY THAT WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN
Mariusz Komenda’s battle with cancer was difficult and deeply personal, but his story also brought people together. The support offered through fundraising efforts showed how many people wanted to help him during his treatment.
Although his life ended far too soon, the memories he created through his cooking, his television appearances and his relationships will remain with those who knew him.
Rest in peace, Mariusz Komenda. You will be remembered for your talent, your infectious smile and the passion you brought to everything you did.
