“ROB WAS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE — NO ONE WILL EVER TAKE HIS PLACE”: LINDSEY BURROW’S HEARTBREAKING TRIBUTE TWO YEARS AFTER LOSING HER HUSBAND
As grief continues to find her in the smallest moments, Lindsey Burrow is determined to honour her late husband’s wishes by raising their three children with love, strength and the courage to keep living life to the fullest.
Two years after losing her husband, rugby league legend Rob Burrow, Lindsey Burrow is still learning to navigate a world without the man she loved.
Rob passed away in June 2024, aged just 41, following his battle with motor neurone disease (MND). His courage inspired millions, but for Lindsey and their three children, Macy, Maya and Jackson, his loss remains deeply personal.
Even on ordinary days, memories of Rob can suddenly bring the emotions rushing back.
A familiar song playing in the car can remind Lindsey of the life they shared. Watching other fathers standing beside their children at football can also make her think of the moments Rob should still be enjoying with their son.
These seemingly small moments carry a powerful reminder of everything that has changed — and of the love that remains.
“NO ONE WILL EVER TAKE HIS PLACE”
In a recent interview, Lindsey spoke openly about the possibility of finding love again. Her answer reflected the enduring place Rob holds in her heart.
“Rob was the love of my life. No one will ever take his place,” she said.
Her words offer a glimpse into the bond they shared throughout their life together, from their younger years to the devastating challenges brought by Rob’s diagnosis.
For Lindsey, moving forward does not mean replacing Rob or leaving their memories behind. It means finding a way to live with grief while continuing to cherish the life they built together.
She has also expressed how grateful she is to have had Rob as her husband and as the father of their children.
Although his absence is painful, the values he passed on to his family remain a source of strength.
THREE CHILDREN KEEPING THEIR DAD CLOSE
Through the hardest days, Lindsey says their three children have given her countless reasons to keep going.
Macy, Maya and Jackson continue to grow up with their dad’s memory woven into everyday family life. They talk about Rob regularly, sharing stories and remembering the moments that made him such an important part of their world.
For Lindsey, keeping those conversations alive is essential. She wants the children to know their father not only as the celebrated rugby player admired by so many, but also as the loving dad who treasured time with them.
Rob loved being involved in their lives, from everyday family activities to the simple moments that often become the most precious memories.
His illness changed what he could physically do, but it never diminished his love for his children.
Now, Lindsey is determined to help them grow up surrounded by that same love, ensuring they can speak about their dad openly and carry his memory with them as they reach new milestones.
THE PROMISE SHE IS DETERMINED TO KEEP
One of the most important things guiding Lindsey is the promise she made to Rob: to keep living life to the full.
She has spoken about how much Rob wanted his family to be happy, even as he faced the progression of MND.
That wish continues to shape the way she approaches life with their children.
Some days are filled with laughter and new experiences. Others bring unexpected sadness, reminders of the husband and father who should still be there.
Lindsey’s determination to keep moving forward does not mean the grief has disappeared. Instead, she is learning that happiness and heartbreak can exist side by side.
Her children remain a central source of motivation, helping her find reasons to smile while she continues to build a future for them.
ROB BURROW’S LEGACY LIVES ON
Rob was much more than a rugby league star. During his career with Leeds Rhinos, he became one of the sport’s most admired figures. After being diagnosed with MND in 2019, he and Lindsey also helped raise awareness of the disease and the challenges faced by people living with it.
His determination brought national attention to MND and inspired fundraising and campaigning efforts that continue beyond his death.
Lindsey has carried that work forward, including supporting the vision behind the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease in Leeds, which opened in 2025.
Yet perhaps his most enduring legacy is found within his own family — in the stories his children share, the memories they protect and the love that continues to guide them.
Two years on, Lindsey is still grieving the man she describes as the love of her life. But she is also honouring his wishes by continuing to raise their children, find moments of happiness and make room for new memories.
Rob may no longer be physically beside them, but he remains part of their everyday lives.
And through Lindsey and their three children, his love continues to live on.
