A LESSON IN DEVOTION: THREE GENERATIONS OF LOVE AND CARE IN PARAGUAY

When Élida Acuña decided to return from Argentina to Paraguay, her motivation was straightforward: to care for her father, Pablo Acuña, whom she described as “the best dad in the world.” Pablo was born without arms and with underdeveloped legs, making him reliant on support for many basic daily tasks. Yet, despite his physical challenges, he remained an pillar of strength, warmth, and love in his daughters’ lives.

When Élida was only four months old and her sister was three, their mother left the family. Pablo took on the task of raising both girls with the dedicated assistance of his mother, Ignacia del Valle. Together, the father and grandmother created a nurturing environment. Over the years, Pablo adapted to his circumstances, navigating his world using a wooden cart for mobility and using his nose to operate electronic devices like his phone and television remote.

As time passed, Ignacia grew too elderly to maintain the demanding routine of care. Demonstrating the same unconditional love she had received as a child, Élida returned home to care for both her father and grandmother. Their long-held dream of stability was realized in early 2026 when charitable contributions helped construct a customized, accessible house for the family. Despite having a new adapted home, Pablo continued to cherish his wooden cart, fondly referring to it as his “home on wheels.”

Pablo’s story is a profound testament to intergenerational devotion. It highlights how compassion, sacrifice, and family bonds can overcome extreme physical adversity, proving that true caregiving moves seamlessly across generations as needs evolve.
