TWO TOP BARRISTERS APPOINTED IN MARK CAIN CASE — NEW DEVELOPMENT AFTER THE DEATH OF DR HANNAH TERRY

The prosecution team has now been confirmed in the case involving the death of a respected Norfolk GP. As her husband remains in custody awaiting his next court hearing, investigators and prosecutors continue preparing for the legal proceedings ahead.

The case surrounding the death of Dr Hannah Cain, known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, has reached another stage following the appointment of two experienced barristers to prosecute her husband, Mark Cain.

Christopher Paxton KC and Steven Ball have been instructed by the Crown Prosecution Service’s East of England team to handle the prosecution. The appointment was announced by Red Lion Chambers on October 14, 2026.

Mark Cain, 45, has been charged with the murder of his wife. He remains in custody as the case proceeds through the courts. The charge is an allegation, and he is entitled to a fair trial.

Dr Hannah Cain, 45, was found unresponsive in an upstairs bedroom at the family home on Fern Hill in Dersingham, Norfolk, in the early hours of Sunday, October 4.

Emergency services attended the property after an ambulance call led to police being contacted. Prosecutors told an earlier hearing that children were present at the home at the time.

Hannah was known to patients and colleagues as Dr Hannah Terry. She worked as a general practitioner at Grimston Medical Centre and also ran a cosmetics business.

Her family later paid tribute to her as “kind, generous and loving”, describing her as a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. They also praised the care she provided to her patients.

During earlier court proceedings, prosecutors outlined preliminary findings from the post-mortem examination.

The examination reportedly identified blunt-force injuries to the head and neck injuries consistent with compression. These details were presented in court as part of the prosecution account; the full circumstances and legal findings have yet to be established.

The appointment of Christopher Paxton KC and Steven Ball marks a further step in preparing the case for court. Their involvement does not determine the outcome, which will depend on the evidence and the legal process.

 THE NEXT COURT DATE

Mark Cain appeared at King’s Lynn Crown Court on October 8 and was remanded in custody.

A plea hearing was provisionally scheduled for December 3, 2026, at Norwich Crown Court. At the time of the latest reports, no provisional trial date had been set.

The proceedings remain active, and the court will consider the case through the established legal process.

 A FAMILY STILL GRIEVING

Beyond the court appearances and legal developments, Hannah’s death has left her family, friends, colleagues and patients mourning a woman remembered for her kindness and dedication.

As the case moves forward, many questions surrounding the final hours of Dr Hannah Terry remain unanswered publicly. The coming hearings will determine how the case progresses and what evidence can be considered in court.

For now, her loved ones continue to grieve, while the legal process moves ahead.
