NANCY GUTHRIE CASE: SHERIFF’S OFFICE REVEALS NEW DNA INVESTIGATION EFFORTS NINE MONTHS AFTER HER DISAPPEARANCE
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office says investigators recently traveled to Florida to meet with laboratory scientists as they continue working to uncover answers in the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC’s Savannah Guthrie.
Nearly nine months after Nancy Guthrie vanished from her Arizona home, investigators are continuing to pursue new scientific leads in an effort to determine what happened to her.
On Friday, October 30, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office released a new statement about the ongoing investigation, revealing that members of the investigative team had recently traveled to Florida to meet with laboratory scientists and discuss additional ways to advance the case.
The department said the discussions focused on DNA analysis and potential approaches that could help investigators move closer to answers.
“Earlier this month, investigators traveled to Florida to meet with lab scientists to see what more could be done to advance this case,” the sheriff’s office stated.
“A number of ideas were discussed, and we continue to work with all our partners to solve this case.”
Although officials did not disclose exactly what new testing methods were discussed or whether the meetings had produced additional findings, the statement confirmed that investigators and their scientific partners remain actively involved.
INVESTIGATORS ASK THE PUBLIC NOT TO OVERLOOK EVEN THE SMALLEST CLUE
Alongside the update about the laboratory meetings, the sheriff’s office renewed its appeal for information from the public.
“Even the smallest piece of information could be critical to this investigation,” the department said.
Authorities encouraged anyone who may know something relevant to come forward, emphasizing that seemingly insignificant details could help investigators establish new leads.
The latest statement did not announce an arrest, identify a suspect or reveal a breakthrough in the search for Nancy.
Instead, it highlighted the continued work involving DNA evidence, scientific analysis and cooperation between law enforcement agencies.
THE NIGHT NANCY GUTHRIE DISAPPEARED
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills area near Tucson, Arizona, on the evening of January 31, 2026.
A family member had dropped her off at approximately 10 p.m.
When Nancy failed to attend church the following morning, February 1, her family became concerned and reported her missing.
Investigators subsequently determined that she had been taken from her home against her will.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos previously stated that Nancy had not left voluntarily.
Authorities also released disturbing surveillance footage showing a masked individual outside her home, apparently tampering with the doorbell camera around the time of her disappearance.
The footage became one of the most important publicly released pieces of evidence in the case.
DNA EVIDENCE REMAINS A KEY PART OF THE INVESTIGATION
Since Nancy disappeared, investigators have examined physical evidence recovered from her property and continued working with forensic specialists.
DNA analysis has been a major focus of the investigation.
Earlier updates indicated that laboratory specialists were examining complex DNA evidence, including mixed genetic material that could require additional testing and interpretation.
The latest trip to Florida demonstrates that investigators are continuing to explore whether further scientific methods could provide useful information.
However, authorities have not publicly confirmed that the latest laboratory discussions resulted in a new DNA match or identified a person responsible for Nancy’s disappearance.
PREVIOUS RANSOM MESSAGES ADDED ANOTHER LAYER OF UNCERTAINTY
The investigation has also involved several purported ransom communications.
In July, authorities released information about two ransom notes connected to the case. One reportedly demanded millions of dollars in cryptocurrency, while another contained a claim that Nancy had died shortly after being taken.
In September, investigators examined another possible ransom text message.
On September 29, the sheriff’s office announced that the message had been reviewed and determined not to be credible.
Authorities warned the public that scammers might attempt to exploit the family’s distress and urged anyone receiving suspicious communications related to Nancy to report them rather than send money or personal information.
The department has continued to distinguish between credible investigative leads and communications that appear to be attempts at extortion.
A FAMILY STILL WAITING FOR ANSWERS
Nancy is the mother of Savannah Guthrie, co-anchor of NBC’s Today show.
Throughout the investigation, Savannah and her family have made emotional public appeals for information and continued to hope for answers about what happened to their loved one.
The family has offered a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to Nancy’s recovery.
The FBI has also offered a separate $100,000 reward for information that could help locate her or lead to an arrest.
Despite the extensive investigation, authorities have not publicly identified a suspect or announced an arrest in connection with Nancy’s disappearance.
The October 30 statement did not provide a timeline for when the next major update might be released.
For now, investigators say they are continuing to work with their partners, examine scientific evidence and follow up on information received from the public.
Nine months after Nancy vanished, her family is still waiting for answers — and authorities are urging anyone with information to speak up, no matter how small the detail may seem.
