NINE KILLED AS PRIVATE LEARJET PLUNGES INTO FLORIDA NEIGHBORHOOD — FINAL AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL RECORDING CAPTURES CREW’S TERRIFYING LAST WORDS

The crew reported icing and turbulence before the aircraft suddenly entered a catastrophic descent. All nine people aboard died when the jet crashed near a mobile home community in Palm Beach County.

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Florida — A private jet plunged almost vertically toward the ground before erupting into a massive fireball, killing all nine people aboard and leaving a residential community shaken.

Disturbing air traffic control recordings have captured the aircraft’s final moments, including desperate emergency calls from the cockpit as the crew struggled to regain control.

The Learjet 60 crashed at approximately 12:50 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, near Military Trail and Cresthaven Boulevard in Palm Beach County, close to the Greenacres area.

The aircraft had departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was travelling to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas.

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed that all nine people aboard had died. Authorities had not reported any fatalities or injuries among people on the ground in their initial updates.

The recording from the Miami Air Route Traffic Control Center reveals how quickly the emergency unfolded.

Shortly before the crash, the pilot contacted air traffic control to report moderate turbulence and light, clear icing conditions.

The pilot initially described the icing as manageable, while the crew sought smoother conditions and requested a change in altitude.

But the situation deteriorated rapidly.

The aircraft began losing altitude at an alarming rate. The pilot issued a mayday call and reported that the jet was descending thousands of feet per minute.

The reported descent rate then increased dramatically, reaching approximately 20,000 feet per minute as the crew reported an overspeed condition.

At one point, the pilot told controllers:

“We’re going to crash into the ground.”

An air traffic controller attempted to maintain contact, responding:

“November two bravo delta, I’m here with you, talk to me.”

The crew continued reporting the aircraft’s increasingly rapid descent. One of the final transmissions ended with the chilling words:

“We’re out of time.”

Flight-tracking data later indicated that the descent rate briefly exceeded 32,000 feet per minute.

The recording has provided investigators with a detailed account of the final communications, but it does not establish what caused the aircraft to lose control.

Videos recorded from the ground showed the Learjet descending at a steep angle before striking the ground and exploding into a huge fireball.

The impact left a large crater near Military Trail and scattered debris across the surrounding area.

The crash also damaged nearby property, including a mobile home. Witnesses described a tremendous explosion, with flames and smoke spreading around the impact site.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis visited the area and described the incident as a “cataclysmic” crash.

He said the aircraft appeared to look like a missile as it came down, leaving a large crater beside the road.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene as authorities closed the surrounding roads and worked to secure the area.

HUNDREDS OF RESIDENTS FORCED TO LEAVE THEIR HOMES

The crash has also had a major impact on people living in the nearby mobile home community.

Local officials said approximately 600 residents were affected and needed temporary shelter or assistance while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene.

The Red Cross was among the organisations prepared to help displaced residents.

Military Trail remained closed as authorities assessed the damage and began the investigation. Officials warned that the road closure could continue for an extended period.

For residents who witnessed the crash, the sudden explosion and destruction transformed an ordinary Sunday afternoon into a frightening experience.

INVESTIGATORS SEARCH FOR THE CAUSE

The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Investigators will examine the aircraft’s wreckage, flight data, weather conditions and communications between the crew and air traffic control.

The pilot had reported icing, turbulence and precipitation before the rapid descent began. However, investigators have not determined whether weather conditions contributed to the crash or established a definitive cause.

The aircraft was identified as a 2004 Learjet 60, registered as N722BD. Records listed LR60271 LLC, a Delaware-based company, as its registered owner.

The aircraft’s occupants had not all been publicly identified in the initial reports.

NINE LIVES LOST IN A SUDDEN TRAGEDY

The crash has left nine families grieving and a residential community facing the aftermath of a devastating aviation disaster.

The final radio transmissions offer a haunting glimpse into the crew’s desperate attempt to deal with an emergency that unfolded in a matter of seconds.

For now, investigators are working to establish exactly what happened between the initial reports of turbulence and icing and the aircraft’s final descent.

The NTSB’s investigation is expected to provide further answers about the moments leading up to the crash.
