“EVERY DAY IS DIFFERENT” — PAULINE QUIRKE’S SON SHARES EMOTIONAL UPDATE ON HER DEMENTIA BATTLE, REVEALING WHAT THE FAMILY IS DETERMINED TO PRESERVE

For the family of beloved British actress Pauline Quirke, the smallest moments have become some of the most precious.

Her son, Charlie Quirke, has shared a moving update about his mother’s life following her dementia diagnosis, offering fans a glimpse into how their family is navigating the challenges of the progressive illness.

The Birds of a Feather star was diagnosed with dementia in 2021, but her family did not publicly reveal the news until January 2025. She subsequently stepped away from acting and commercial commitments.

Now, Charlie has reassured those who continue to care about his mother that the family is making the most of every day they have together.

Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine in September 2026, he said: “Mum, she’s great. Every day is different, it’s part of our journey.”

He explained that they still try to enjoy ordinary family activities, including going out for lunch and spending time together.

And one familiar tradition remains particularly special: watching football.

Charlie even joked about making his mother sit through a West Ham victory, revealing how familiar routines continue to bring moments of happiness into their lives.

“We’ve got such a close family unit that it makes it easier on our journey. But touch wood, she’s happy,” he added.

For Charlie and the rest of Pauline’s family, maintaining their connection with her is at the heart of everything.

In an earlier interview on BBC Breakfast in November 2025, Charlie spoke about how his mother continued to recognise her loved ones.

He described how she would smile, laugh and greet family members when she saw them.

“My mum has always been my best friend, and dementia hasn’t changed that,” he said.

He also acknowledged the emotional difficulty of living with a progressive condition for which there is currently no cure.

His father, Steve Sheen, has previously spoken about the uncertainty surrounding the illness, explaining that it is difficult to predict how quickly it will progress or what the future may bring.

Rather than focusing entirely on what might happen next, the family is trying to appreciate the moments they can still share.

Charlie’s support for dementia research has also become an important part of his journey.

He has worked with Alzheimer’s Research UK to raise awareness and funds, inspired by his mother’s experience.

His efforts include major fundraising challenges, with reports in September 2026 highlighting that he had raised approximately £330,000 for dementia research.

He has also spoken about the importance of finding better treatments and ultimately a cure, so that other families may have more hope in the future.

For Charlie, the cause is deeply personal. He wants his mother’s experience to help bring attention to a condition that affects countless families.

ANOTHER FAMILY MEMORY TO LOOK FORWARD TO

There is also a special milestone ahead.

During his September appearance on Lorraine, Charlie confirmed that Pauline is expected to attend his wedding to his fiancée, Chloe Thornton.

For a family living with the uncertainty of dementia, the opportunity to share such an important occasion carries enormous emotional meaning.

Pauline Quirke spent decades entertaining audiences through television, theatre and her work nurturing young performers.

Today, her family is focused on something much more personal: making sure she continues to feel loved, supported and surrounded by familiar faces.

Her illness has changed many aspects of their lives, but Charlie’s words offer a reminder that meaningful moments can still be found in the simplest things.

A family lunch. A football match. A smile when loved ones walk through the door.

And above all, the bond between a mother and her son.

Because sometimes, the moments a family wants to preserve most are the ones that might once have seemed ordinary.
