‘I WAS HEARTBROKEN SEEING HER COVERED IN TUBES’: BABY GIRL BORN WITH INTESTINES OUTSIDE HER BODY DEFIES THE ODDS AFTER LIFE-SAVING SURGERY

A baby girl born with a rare congenital condition that left most of her intestines outside her body is now recovering at home after undergoing successful surgery just days after birth.
Little Maisie Tobin, from England, shocked doctors and her family when scans revealed she had developed a serious abdominal wall defect while still in the womb.
The rare condition meant much of Maisie’s large and small intestines had formed outside her abdominal cavity during pregnancy after her abdominal wall failed to fully close during fetal development.

Her mother recalled the emotional moment doctors first broke the devastating news during a routine 12-week scan.
“When we found out I was pregnant, our whole family was overjoyed,” she said. “But during the ultrasound, the doctor explained that our baby had a congenital defect. I was terrified and didn’t know what to think.”
Despite the fear and uncertainty, doctors reassured the family throughout the pregnancy and closely monitored the unborn baby’s condition.
But nothing could fully prepare Maisie’s mother for the moment she finally saw her daughter after birth.

“The first time I saw her, she was surrounded by machines,” she shared emotionally. “Even though I knew about the condition beforehand, seeing my tiny baby like that completely broke my heart.”
Immediately after delivery, doctors carefully wrapped Maisie’s exposed intestines in protective medical covering to help stabilize her condition and reduce the risk of infection before rushing her into surgery.
Medical teams then performed a delicate operation to place the organs back inside her abdomen and repair the defect.

Thankfully, the procedure was successful.
“Thank goodness the surgery went well,” her mother said. “I can never thank the doctors enough for saving my daughter’s life.”
After spending her first days under close hospital observation, Maisie gradually began recovering, giving her family hope that the worst was finally behind them.
Just two weeks after the operation, the little girl was healthy enough to leave the hospital and return home with her family.

Doctors believe the surgery is unlikely to significantly affect her future development, breathing, or digestion — news her parents describe as nothing short of a miracle.
Now back home, Maisie’s family says they are simply grateful for every peaceful moment with the little girl they feared they might lose before she even had the chance to begin her life.
“She’s already been through more than most people could imagine,” her mother said. “But she’s such a strong little fighter.”
Today, baby Maisie continues recovering surrounded by love, proving just how powerful modern medicine — and a parent’s hope — can truly be.
