Three Generations of California Family Killed in Tragic Modesto Stabbing

Three Generations Lost in One Day: California Family Mourns Unimaginable Tragedy

Multiple people were stabbed inside a home in New Britain, Connecticut, according to police.

A California community is grieving after three generations of the same family were killed in a shocking stabbing attack that has left loved ones searching for answers.

The victims included a grandmother, her young daughter, and a newborn baby who had been in the world for only a matter of days. The heartbreaking case has drawn national attention and sparked an outpouring of support for surviving family members.

A Welfare Check Ends in Horror

The tragedy unfolded on May 28 in Modesto, California, when police responded to a welfare check after relatives were unable to contact family members. Inside the home, officers discovered a devastating scene. Authorities found 54-year-old Maria Sylvia Nuñez-Villalobos, her 23-year-old daughter Fabiola Gonzalez-Nuñez, and Fabiola’s infant son suffering from stab wounds.

Both women were pronounced dead at the scene. The baby, later identified by family members as Mateo Gonzalez, was rushed to a hospital but did not survive.

Three Generations Gone

The loss has been particularly devastating because it claimed three generations of one family in a single incident.

Family members described Maria Sylvia as a loving grandmother known for her kindness and strength. Fabiola was remembered as a devoted mother whose life revolved around her children, while baby Mateo was an innocent life taken far too soon.

Adding another emotional layer to the tragedy, a 3-year-old child was found alive and unharmed inside the residence. Authorities believe the child is related to the victims and has since been placed in the care of family members and child welfare services.

Suspect Arrested Nearby

Investigators quickly identified 28-year-old Joaquin Escoto as the primary suspect. Police say he lived in the home and had a relationship with Fabiola Gonzalez-Nuñez. Authorities later located him hiding inside a nearby residence and arrested him without incident.

He now faces multiple charges, including murder and special-circumstance allegations related to the deaths. Prosecutors continue to pursue the case while investigators work to determine what led to the attack.

Community Rallies Around the Family

As the investigation continues, friends, neighbors, and community members have come together to support the surviving relatives.

Fundraisers and memorial efforts have been organized to help the family cope with funeral expenses and the emotional aftermath of the tragedy. Many residents have expressed shock that such violence could occur within their community.

A Heartbreaking Reminder

The deaths of a grandmother, a young mother, and a newborn child have left an entire community mourning.

For those who knew them, the tragedy is more than a criminal investigation—it is the loss of three loved ones whose lives touched multiple generations of family and friends.

As legal proceedings move forward, loved ones continue to remember the victims and hope for answers that may bring some measure of closure.
