What should have been one of the happiest moments of her life quickly turned into a nightmare for a new mother after her newborn son was left requiring specialist treatment following an incident at a hospital.

The mother, who shared her experience on social media, said she was admitted to hospital on August 18 for an induced delivery due to high blood pressure.

The following day, she welcomed her baby boy, José, describing the birth as smooth and her son as healthy.

But only hours after giving birth, the family’s joy was shattered.

According to the mother, a nurse placed a heated piece of cotton inside the newborn’s sock in an attempt to keep him comfortable.

Moments later, the infant became increasingly distressed and would not stop crying.

Concerned relatives tried to soothe the baby before his grandmother made a 𝚜𝚑𝚘𝚌𝚔𝚒𝚗𝚐 discovery.

When she removed the sock, she found that José’s foot had sustained a serious burn injury.

The family also claimed that the heat had scorched both the baby’s sock and part of his clothing.

Instead of preparing to take her newborn home, the devastated mother says she suddenly found herself facing an entirely different reality.

“Instead of resting, recovering, and enjoying those first precious days with my baby, I am spending my postpartum recovery worrying about him,” she wrote.

The infant was transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where he remains under specialist medical care while doctors assess the extent of his injury and determine the next steps in his treatment.

“What should have been our joyful discharge turned into trauma,” the mother said.

“We were supposed to be home today.”

“Now I don’t know when I’ll be able to bring my baby home.”

The emotional post quickly attracted attention online, with many people expressing sympathy for the family and hoping for the baby’s full recovery.

For the young mother, however, the focus remains on her son.

“Our only concern right now is José,” she said.

“We just want him to heal and finally come home where he belongs.”

As the family waits for answers, what was meant to be the beginning of a beautiful new chapter has instead become an unexpected and deeply emotional journey during the very first days of their baby’s life.
