POPE LEO XIV ARRIVES AT PLAZA DE CIBELES IN MADRID

On June 7, 2026, Pope Leo XIV arrived at Plaza de Cibeles in Madrid, Spain, where massive crowds gathered to welcome him during the second day of his Apostolic Journey to Spain.

Before the Holy Mass, the Pope toured the area in the popemobile, moving slowly among the faithful as people waved flags, cheered, prayed, and reached out to greet him. The moment created a powerful scene of faith and unity in the heart of Madrid.

The gathering was part of the celebration of Corpus Christi, with more than 1.2 million people filling the streets around Plaza de Cibeles for the Mass and Eucharistic procession.

For many pilgrims, seeing Pope Leo XIV up close in the popemobile was one of the most emotional moments of the visit. Families, young people, religious communities, and visitors from across Spain came together in a joyful public witness of Catholic faith.

During the Mass, Pope Leo XIV called on believers to live their faith through compassion, service, and closeness to the poor and vulnerable. His message reflected one of the central themes of his journey: a Church that walks with people, especially those most in need.

The arrival at Plaza de Cibeles was not only a ceremonial entrance — it became one of the defining images of Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Madrid: a Pope surrounded by the faithful, bringing a message of hope, dignity, and unity.
