⚖️ Suspect in North Shore Mob Beating Pleads Not Guilty

Tristen Pakele-Picanco, 19, the only adult charged in the brutal mob attack on a lifeguard and a 15-year-old boy at Waialee Beach on Oahu’s North Shore, pleaded not guilty in court on Friday.

The violent incident took place on May 30 when lifeguard Kekoa Tamale, 23, stepped in to protect his young family friend from a group of around a dozen attackers. Instead of helping, bystanders reportedly stood by and recorded the beating on their phones.

Pakele-Picanco faces a charge of attempted assault in the first degree. If convicted, he could spend up to 10 years in prison. His trial is scheduled for the week of August 10.

The other six suspects are juveniles and their cases are being handled in family court.

A GoFundMe has been set up by family members to help Tamale and the teenage victim recover from the attack.
