BOY SURVIVES AFTER BEING TRAPPED UNDER EARTHQUAKE RUBBLE IN VENEZUELA FOR 6 DAYS

A 2–3 year-old boy was found by rescue workers in the rubble after the double earthquake in Venezuela, giving people renewed hope that more survivors may still be found.

Rescue workers pulled a young boy from the rubble on June 30 (local time) after the double earthquake in Venezuela, the only survivor located on the sixth day of the rescue operation.

According to an announcement via Telegram by Venezuela’s interim President Delcy Rodriguez, Klieber Moran was rescued by Jordanian rescue teams from the rubble of the Los Corales Garden 1 building in La Guaira state.

Venezuela was struck by two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale less than a minute apart on June 24, causing widespread building collapses and leaving thousands of people trapped beneath the debris.

Moran was later taken to receive medical care. According to Reuters, Delcy Rodriguez said the child was 3 years old, while National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez said he was 2 years old.

“We must hold on to hope that we continue to find survivors beneath the rubble. Early this morning, a 2-year-old boy was rescued and is now receiving care at a medical center in Caracas,” Jorge Rodriguez said on television.

According to Jorge Rodriguez, the double earthquake has claimed the lives of at least 1,943 people and left 10,571 others injured.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said a shipment of 47 tons of humanitarian aid from UNICEF arrived in Venezuela on June 30. The supplies will help support children and families affected by the disaster.

Mr. Dujarric added that the shipment included emergency medical kits containing essential supplies for safe childbirth, newborn care, and the prevention and treatment of illness.
