A MOTHER GAMBLED AGAINST FATE, FLYING HER DAUGHTER HALFWAY ACROSS THE WORLD TO TREAT THE GIANT BIRTHMARK ON HER FACE

A MUM has enjoyed endless cuddles with her little daughter after pioneering treatment helped remove part of a large “Batman-shaped” birthmark from her face.

Carol Fenner flew with daughter Luna from Florida to Russia for the therapy, which delivered remarkable results.

Little Luna was born with a congenital melanocytic nevus – a skin condition that causes large dark patches of skin – covering almost her entire face.

After numerous visits to doctors in the US, Carol was repeatedly told that the condition was “very difficult to treat.” Determined to explore every option, she flew with Luna to Russia for an 18-month photodynamic therapy program to reduce the large birthmark.

Despite warnings from doctors in the US that the procedure could leave scars, Carol decided to take the chance.

The pair have been enjoying lots of cuddles since the remarkable pain-free treatment and say it feels like a “Christmas miracle.”

Earlier this week, Carol watched in amazement as Dr. Pavel Popov removed Luna’s bandages.

The results revealed minimal scarring, while the skin underneath looked clear and was healing even better than expected.

Carol said: “This is the best possible Christmas present for our family – and it has come early thanks to Dr. Popov.

“It makes us truly feel the miracle of Christmas.”

Over the next year and a half, Luna will undergo eight pain-free procedures in an effort to remove the rest of the birthmark from her face.

Mum and daughter are now preparing to fly back to the US for the festive season.

The encouraging news comes after Carol spent months wondering whether taking Luna so far from home for treatment was the right decision.

Explaining why she chose to travel to Russia for her daughter’s treatment, Carol said that one day, while they were at a neighborhood church, a stranger cruelly called Luna a “monster.”

“When I decided to take my daughter to Russia, people called me crazy. But something inside me kept telling me to do it. Maybe it was a mother’s instinct. I knew I had to try. Living so far from home would be difficult, but I had to give Luna this chance,” Carol recalled.

Now that difficult decision has turned into a hopeful one, with Luna happy, healthy, and recovering faster than expected.

While removing Luna’s bandages earlier this week, Dr. Popov said: “We thought the healing process would take a little longer.

“I wanted to avoid the surgeries that doctors in America were recommending. Only Dr. Popov convinced me he could help Luna without putting her through pain. I prayed this was the right decision, and I’m so thankful it was. Luna doesn’t feel any pain, even without pain medication. The first time I saw the birthmark fading, I was completely amazed.”

“We are now ready to let Carol go home a month ahead of schedule.

“We expected good results, but what we’ve seen has gone beyond our expectations… Her skin will continue to heal naturally.”
