MOTHER LEARNED OF BABY MIGUEL’S RARE CONDITION ONLY AFTER HE WAS BORN WITHOUT ARMS OR LEGS

Four-month-old Miguel Arthur Gomes da Silva, who was born without arms and legs, has touched the hearts of many after photos of him were shared on Facebook as part of a fundraising campaign.
His mother, Rivânia Gomes da Silva, is currently unable to work because she stays home to care for her son. She is asking for support with essentials such as diapers, formula, and hygiene supplies.
“When Miguel was born, the doctors explained that he had a congenital condition,” Rivânia said. “We are looking for support to help improve his quality of life and learn how to adapt to his needs. Right now, I can’t work because I need to care for him.”

Rivânia lives with her aunt, who is also raising two children. She has not been in contact with Miguel’s father since the eighth month of her pregnancy.
“Miguel is registered under my name only because his father chose not to be involved. Even so, I’m very grateful for all the kindness and support we’ve received,” she said.
According to Rivânia, one of the biggest challenges after Miguel was born was learning how to hold him safely.
“At first, I was afraid of hurting him, but now we’ve learned the best way to hold and care for him at home.”
She explained that she left her job during her pregnancy and has remained at home to care for her son. Miguel’s father chose not to be listed on his birth registration after learning about his condition.

“I only found out about Miguel’s condition when he was born. The first few days were very difficult because I didn’t know how to hold him.”
The young mother continues to live with her aunt and has had no contact with her former partner since the eighth month of her pregnancy.
According to Rivânia, she did not know about Miguel’s physical condition before his birth.
Miguel’s great-aunt, Simone Gomes, who is providing a home for Rivânia and her son, said Miguel has been placed on the waiting list for physical therapy at a clinic in Fortaleza and has been waiting for treatment for about three months.
“The doctors told us to raise him like any other child,” Simone said. “He has some physical limitations, but overall he is a healthy little boy with normal cognitive development.”
Simone added that the medical team will continue monitoring Miguel’s growth before deciding on the next steps for his care.
