From LA Red Carpets to Idaho River Plunges & Endless Family BBQs: Ali Larter’s Heartwarming Journey to a ‘Simpler’ Life in Sun Valley – “We Just Wanna Be with Our Children”

In an era where Hollywood stars are constantly chasing the next big role, party, or trending moment, Ali Larter has quietly made one of the most relatable and inspiring choices of her career: she traded the bright lights of Los Angeles for the peaceful mountain magic of Sun Valley, Idaho – and she’s never looked back.

The stunning actress, currently captivating audiences as the fierce and fiery Angela in the hit Paramount+ series Landman alongside Billy Bob Thornton, opened up beautifully at the Newport Beach TV Fest about her transformed life far from the Hollywood hustle.

“It’s totally different,” she said with a glowing smile. “We can’t really get our kids to hike anymore… But I can get them to take a bike ride and then do a little cold plunge in the river. We love to barbecue at our house. We love to play with our dogs. My daughter will probably play some volleyball. We’ll go to Leroy’s and get an ice cream cone. It’s just kind of simpler, and the days are really long. The sun’s out till like 10 at night now, so it’s been really beautiful to kind of have the kids out of school and enjoy the time with them.”

Ali, her husband (actor Hayes MacArthur), 15-year-old son Teddy, and 11-year-old daughter Vivienne made the move in 2020 during the pandemic lockdowns, initially thinking it would be temporary. What started as a two-month escape became their forever home after they experienced the joy of real community, in-person schooling for their daughter, and precious family bonding on the ski slopes.

After a brief return to LA one summer and feeling overwhelmed by the constant demands – auditions, events, parties, and the pressure to always be “on” – the family knew exactly where their hearts belonged.

“We just didn’t want to do that,” Larter said honestly. “We wanna be with our children.” While she still cherishes LA (“My heart will always be there”), the decision to prioritize presence, peace, and raising grounded kids in nature won out completely.

Now their summers are filled with exactly what matters most: long bike rides followed by refreshing cold plunges, backyard barbecues that smell like pure happiness, endless playtime with the family dogs, volleyball games, and those perfect golden evenings ending with ice cream under a sky that refuses to darken early.

In Landman, her character Angela is described as a total “wildcat” – and Larter admits with a laugh that she sometimes wishes she could channel a bit more of that bold energy into her own wonderfully balanced life. But perhaps her greatest role yet is the one she’s living off-screen: present mom, loving wife, and woman brave enough to choose simplicity over spotlight.

This refreshing story is resonating deeply with so many parents dreaming of slowing down. In a world that glorifies constant hustle, Ali Larter’s courageous pivot reminds us that true success can look like long summer days, family laughter, and choosing what fills your heart instead of your calendar.

Here’s to more celebrities (and all of us) finding the courage to redefine happiness on our own terms – whether that’s in the mountains of Idaho or wherever home feels right.
