Florida Rescue Takes In 16 Abandoned Puppies Found Covered in Fleas and Scrapes

An animal rescue organization in Florida is caring for 16 abandoned puppies found outside a convenience store.

According to a July 11th Facebook post by the organization, the Suncoast Animal League, based in Palm Harbor, Florida, adopted the puppies. The Suncoast Animal League also stated on social media that someone found the puppies outside a convenience store and brought them to the Pasco County Animal Services Center.

“A pickup truck pulled into the parking lot of the Pasco County Animal Services Center with two dog crates in the back. Inside the crates were fifteen puppies, aged 7 to 9 weeks old. As staff rushed to get water bowls for the puppies, the man explained that he had found them 30 minutes earlier next to a 7-11 convenience store, in their crates,” the Suncoast Animal League wrote on Facebook.

A July 11 post stated that 15 puppies, seven to nine weeks old, were found outside a convenience store, but a more recent Facebook update on July 12 adjusted the number down to 16 puppies.

The original July 11 post by the Suncoast Animal League included photos of the puppies in two black cages outside the Pasco County Animal Services Centre.

After a kind person brought the puppies to the Pasco County Animal Services Centre, the centre contacted the Suncoast Animal League for help as many animal shelters had stopped accepting new animals due to a recent outbreak of canine flu.

“We immediately understood this was an emergency,” the Suncoast Animal League wrote.
