Jenna Compono expected to return home after doctors examined the cramps she had been feeling.

Instead, the reality television star learned that she would not be leaving the hospital until her fifth child was born.

What began as a routine checkup quickly became an unexpected delivery after doctors discovered two potentially serious concerns. There was not enough amniotic fluid surrounding the baby, and the umbilical cord had wrapped around his neck.

Rather than risk waiting for his scheduled due date, the medical team decided to induce labor immediately.

Compono and her husband, Zach Nichols, welcomed their son, Vincent John Nichols, on Sunday, August 2. He arrived two weeks early, weighing 7 pounds, 4 ounces and measuring 21 inches long.

For Compono, 33, the sudden change in plans was unsettling. She had entered the appointment believing she was simply being evaluated because of the cramping. Then doctors told her she needed to remain at the hospital and prepare to give birth.

She admitted that she did not feel ready for the moment. But after learning why doctors believed an early delivery was necessary, she accepted that the safest choice was to move forward.

The most important outcome was that Vincent arrived healthy.

Now, instead of spending the final two weeks waiting for his due date, Compono and Nichols, 38, are already getting to know the newest member of their rapidly growing household.

An Unexpected Turn at the Hospital

Vincent’s early arrival added a brief medical scare to what had otherwise been another eagerly anticipated pregnancy for the couple.

Compono explained that the reduced fluid and the position of the umbilical cord made doctors unwilling to take unnecessary chances. Their recommendation transformed an ordinary appointment into an induction with almost no time for the mother of four to prepare mentally or practically.

It was another reminder that even experienced parents cannot predict how a birth will unfold.

Compono has now gone through pregnancy and delivery five times, but familiarity did not make the unexpected news less overwhelming. Her reaction was honest: she had not walked into the hospital expecting to meet her son that day.

Still, she chose to adapt.

Life, she said, sometimes delivers circumstances without warning, leaving people to respond as best they can. In this case, the surprise ended with relief. Vincent was safe, and his parents were able to welcome him earlier than expected.

A Name With Family Meaning

The couple did not choose their newborn’s full name casually.

Compono had long loved the first name Vincent. His middle name, John, honors her father and continues a tradition that she and Nichols have followed with each of their children.

The middle names of their sons and daughters are connected to members of the family. Their daughter Carmella, for example, received the middle name Jean in tribute to Nichols’ grandmother.

Giving Vincent his grandfather’s name allowed the couple to extend that pattern to their youngest child.

The choice gives each child an individual identity while also linking them to the relatives who came before them. For Vincent, that connection is carried through his mother’s side of the family.

Five Children in Less Than Five Years

Vincent joins four siblings who are all remarkably close in age.

Compono and Nichols are already parents to Anthony Joseph, 4; Liliana Marie, 3; Carmella Jean, 2; and Francesca Rose, who is 11 months old.

Their fifth baby therefore arrived less than a year after Francesca’s birth.

The close spacing means the couple’s home is filled with young children at several stages of early childhood at once. There are preschoolers, toddlers, an infant approaching her first birthday and now a newborn.

Compono does not pretend that managing such a large, young family is calm or orderly.

After having three children, she joked, adding another no longer seems to make much difference. The household is already chaotic, and one more baby simply becomes part of the movement, noise and constant activity.

Yet she described it as the best kind of chaos.

That attitude captures how the couple appears to approach their expanding family. The demands are obvious, but so is their excitement about giving their children another sibling.

Vincent’s Welcome Home

The four older children quickly became involved after their baby brother arrived home.

According to Compono, they were eager to help and immediately loved Vincent. Their enthusiasm was so strong that they apparently had not fully understood that the pregnancy had ended.

Even after meeting the new baby, the children continued to believe there might still be another one inside their mother’s stomach.

Compono joked that everyone was being helpful—at least during the first week.

Behind the humor was a moment of genuine appreciation. Because the siblings are separated by only a small number of years, Compono is grateful that they get along and become excited whenever another baby enters the family.

For young children, welcoming a newborn can bring uncertainty or jealousy. In the Nichols household, the initial response was affection and curiosity.

The older siblings did not appear to see Vincent as an interruption. They treated him as someone new to love.

From Reality Television to a Growing Family

Compono and Nichols became known through MTV’s competitive reality series The Challenge, but their lives together have increasingly centered on marriage and parenthood.

The couple became engaged in 2019. They later married in a small ceremony in March 2021.

In the years surrounding their wedding, their family expanded quickly. Anthony, Liliana, Carmella and Francesca each arrived before Vincent completed the group of five children.

The couple revealed in February that they were expecting again, only months after Francesca’s arrival. The announcement made clear that another major change was already approaching for a household still adjusting to its fourth baby.

By August, that change came sooner than planned.

Embracing the Chaos

The circumstances surrounding Vincent’s birth could have made his arrival frightening. Compono entered the hospital expecting reassurance about her cramps and instead heard that her baby needed to be delivered.

Doctors found conditions they believed required immediate action. Plans changed. Labor was induced. A child expected two weeks later suddenly became the center of the family’s day.

But the story ended not with the uncertainty of that appointment, but with a healthy newborn in his parents’ arms.

For Compono and Nichols, life with five children will likely bring sleepless nights, crowded rooms and countless unpredictable moments.
