Patricia Saintizaire, the woman convicted of the murder of her 4-year-old adopted son, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The sentencing hearing lasted for less than 15 minutes.

Polk County authorities arrested Saintizaire after her son, Bryan Boyer, died at a hospital in May 2024.

Detectives stated Saintizaire brought Boyer with her from Haiti, beating and neglecting him for at least a year.

Some of the abuse was caught on surveillance camera, with Sheriff Grady Judd saying there was a point when the child’s hands were “tied behind his back and she threw him in a swimming pool” in one instance.

“We have a video clip of where that 4-year-old baby’s hands were tied behind his back, and she threw him in a swimming pool,” Judd said in a 2024 press conference.

A prosecuting attorney Friday described the physical abuse that the 4-year-old suffered.

“Your honor, [you] saw the horrific photos from the medical examiner, of what she did to that child and how his back looked, both externally and internally,” she said.

8 On Your Side wasn’t able to speak to any attorneys after the sentencing, but received a statement from State Attorney Brian Haas.

“The jury made the right decision in convicting Patricia Saintizaire of first-degree murder,” State Attorney Brian Haas said. “The life sentence was justified. While we know we cannot bring back Bryan, at least the defendant will spend the REST of her life in prison and never be able to hurt another child.”
