On 4 August, fans of Perez Hilton became worried when during a TikTok livestream.

The blogger appeared to engage in self-harm and emergency services were called to his Miami home and he was taken to a local hospital. And an update from Hilton’s (real name Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr.) family said his condition is ‘serious but stable’.

Receiving medical and mental health care, the 48-year-old is said to have made a request from his hospital bed.

The graphic broadcast of the incident was removed by TikTok, with several subsequent streams closed and his account was banned.

And it’s said that Hilton ‘hasn’t seen’ the approximately 15-minute-long video but has asked to watch it, having reportedly had no access to the internet or electronic devices.

A source who has apparently known the American columnist for nearly 20 years claimed to the Daily Mail that he is wanting to watch the shocking stream.

‘He wants to watch it to see what everybody else saw, but his family knows that would be really bad right now,” they said.

The source added that Hilton ‘hasn’t seen’ the video because his family are ‘protecting him from himself’.

“He doesn’t need to see his lowest point of his life, especially not this soon afterwards,” they added.

While Hilton has no access to the internet, it’s said he’s ‘worried’ about the video and has asked ‘what people are saying’.

“Right now, everyone is telling him that the world is very supportive of him. We don’t want him to see any negative commentary, or what happened,” the source added.

“That would be the worst thing possible. What Perez needs is to feel like there are people in his corner. That will give him the strength to go on.”

On Wednesday (12 August), his sister, Barbara Lavandeira told Page Six that 4 August will ‘forever be one of the darkest days my family and I have ever experienced’.

“What I can say on behalf of our family is that we’re deeply grateful for every kind message, prayer and expression of genuine concern,” she said. “The support has meant more to us than I can properly express.”

Lavandeira acknowledged that ‘some people don’t like’ Hilton but asked for respect as the family navigate the situation.

“Whatever anyone thinks about Mario, his children and our mother are innocent. They shouldn’t be punished or tormented because of how people feel about him,” she added.

And a previous update on his website from his family explained that as Hilton remains hospitalised under Florida’s Baker Act, his communication ‘has been extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers, and others directly involved in his care’.

“Perez’s condition remains serious but stable. He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days. His treatment and recovery will be a long process,” they said.
