6-Year-Old Girl Dies After Being Left on Daycare Bus for Hours, Family Seeks Answers

6-Year-Old Winter Jones Dies After Allegedly Being Left on Daycare Bus
A heartbreaking tragedy in Memphis, Tennessee, has left the family of 6-year-old Winter Jones demanding answers after the girl allegedly remained unattended on a daycare bus for several hours in extreme heat.
According to her family, Winter’s father dropped her off at daycare on the morning of August 13, 2026. The bus was reportedly supposed to transport her to school, but she did not get off when the vehicle arrived. The bus subsequently returned to the daycare facility.

Winter was reportedly found unresponsive around 3 p.m. and was later pronounced dead.
Her family said her internal body temperature had reached approximately 109°F (43°C), highlighting the extreme heat she may have endured while inside the vehicle.
Relatives also described Winter as autistic and non-verbal, meaning she may not have been able to communicate her distress or call for help.
The circumstances have prompted serious questions about how the child could have remained on the bus after it returned to the daycare and why she was not discovered sooner.
The Memphis Police Department, the Tennessee Department of Human Services, and the Department of Children’s Services are all involved in the investigation.

At this time, no criminal charges have been announced. Investigators are working to establish a timeline, determine who was responsible for checking the vehicle, and understand exactly what happened after the bus returned to the facility.
For Winter’s family, the loss is devastating, and they are seeking answers about how a routine morning trip to daycare could end in the death of their 6-year-old daughter.
The investigation remains ongoing.
