Twin Falls In-N-Out shooting victim returns home, facing long road to recovery

Steven Pixley, who was shot and injured during the mass shooting in Twin Falls, is back home recovering but still faces a long road to healing.
TWIN FALLS, Idaho — More than two weeks after being injured in the Twin Falls In-N-Out mass shooting, Steven Pixley is back home recovering and preparing for months of rehabilitation.
Pixley, 39, said he was riding his motorcycle along Blue Lakes Boulevard on Aug. 1 when he was struck by gunfire while stopped at a traffic light.

I was just out riding my motorcycle, doing one of the things I enjoy the most, and get shot,” Pixley said.
Pixley said the light had just turned green when he heard a gunshot.
“I started to drive, and that’s when I heard the shot. Then my arm went dead,” he said. “I looked down, and I could see all the blood and the bones all over the place, and I knew I got shot.”
Pixley said he did not fully understand what had happened until he arrived at the hospital, where doctors told him he was one of several victims in a mass shooting.
As other victims were being flown in for treatment, Pixley said his focus was on them.
“My mind was more towards, I hope they get better,” he said. “Then I went to, what got into this? What made this guy want to just start shooting people? It’s not something I can understand or ever probably will understand.”
Since the shooting, Pixley has undergone two surgeries. Doctors had to reconstruct his elbow after the bullet caused extensive damage to his arm.
“I had a plate put on the top part of my arm and another plate on the bottom arm, and then sleeves to connect it to the elbow, and a whole bunch of screws,” Pixley said. “The physical therapy is going to be a lot. It’s going to be painful, and it’s going to take a while.”
Pixley said nerve damage has left him with limited feeling in his fingers. While doctors are hopeful he will regain use of his elbow and hand, additional surgeries may still be needed.
For now, he is focused on healing and said he is grateful for the support he has received from the community. He said he’s grateful for everyone who has donated to his GoFundMe fundraiser,  Fundraiser by Tracey Evans : Help Steven After Twin Falls Shooting.
“I’m not used to having people genuinely care,” Pixley said. “The community here is awesome. I really appreciate them.”

Pixley also said his employer has been supportive throughout his recovery, allowing him time to heal. He hopes to return to work soon in a light-duty capacity while continuing to recover.
