Colorado Husband Charged With Murder After Wife’s Death Was Initially Ruled a Suicide

Colorado Husband Charged With Wife’s Murder After Death Initially Investigated as Suicide
Patrick Theodore Barnett, 40, of Lakewood, Colorado, has been charged in connection with the death of his wife, Lindsey Barnett, a teacher and mother of two who had recently given birth.
Lindsey was found dead inside the couple’s home on August 13, 2026. The death was initially investigated as a possible suicide, with Patrick reportedly telling investigators that his wife had been struggling with postpartum depression and had taken her own life.

However, investigators later identified several details that raised questions about the initial theory. Authorities reportedly found bruising consistent with defensive injuries, along with bloodstains and footprints at the scene.
Investigators also discovered that Patrick had allegedly been having an affair. According to authorities, he had reportedly told his mistress that Lindsey intended to die by suicide.

As investigators continued examining the evidence, Patrick was subsequently charged with his wife’s murder.
He is currently being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on August 20, 2026.
The investigation remains ongoing. The allegations against Patrick have not been proven in court, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
