Mother and Two Daughters Killed in Fiery Highway 99 Crash Near Bakersfield
A mother and her two daughters were killed in a devastating three-vehicle crash on Highway 99 near Bakersfield, California, early on August 17, 2026.
The collision occurred at approximately 12:44 a.m. One vehicle was reportedly traveling the wrong way in the southbound lanes, although the California Highway Patrol (CHP) has not yet determined which vehicle was traveling in the wrong direction.

The vehicle carrying the mother and her two daughters caught fire after the collision, and all three occupants died at the scene.
A GoFundMe page identified the victims as Vanessa, Kylie, and Kloie, but their identities had not yet been officially confirmed by the coroner’s office.
According to information shared by the family, they had been returning from a concert in Fresno where they had gone to celebrate Kloie’s upcoming 17th birthday.

The crash also left other people injured. Two occupants of another vehicle suffered serious injuries, while two people in the third vehicle sustained minor injuries.
CHP continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including which vehicle was traveling the wrong way and what factors may have contributed to the collision. Authorities have not yet made a final determination about whether alcohol, drugs, or other factors played a role.
