ANGELICA BROPHY MYSTERY DEEPENS: HUMAN REMAINS FOUND NEAR SEARCH AREA — BUT NOT BELIEVED TO BE HER

The mystery surrounding missing Oceanside mother Angelica Brophy has taken another unexpected turn.

On August 12, a volunteer search-and-rescue team discovered human remains in an embankment near the 33000 block of South Grade Road in Pauma Valley, less than three miles from the entrance to Palomar Mountain State Park.

But investigators quickly made one thing clear:

The identity of the person has not yet been established publicly. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation, while the Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the person’s identity and cause and manner of death.

ANGELICA’S DISAPPEARANCE REMAINS UNEXPLAINED

Angelica, a 44-year-old mother of two and emergency-room nurse, was last seen on July 6.

Surveillance footage reportedly showed her at Harrah’s Resort Southern California that afternoon. Less than an hour later, she entered Palomar Mountain State Park — an area where she was known to hike.

Her vehicle was discovered in the park three days later.

But Angelica was nowhere to be found.

Search teams have since combed through difficult terrain, including steep canyons and dense vegetation. Authorities have also conducted additional targeted searches after detectives developed new investigative leads.

The discovery of the remains naturally raised immediate questions about Angelica.

But authorities have not established a connection between the remains and her disappearance.

In fact, Oceanside police have said there is currently no evidence of foul play in Angelica’s disappearance.

That means investigators are now dealing with two separate mysteries:

Who are the remains found near South Grade Road?

What happened to Angelica after she entered Palomar Mountain?

HER CAR WAS FOUND.

SEARCH TEAMS HAVE RETURNED TO THE MOUNTAIN MULTIPLE TIMES.

AND NOW HUMAN REMAINS HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED NEARBY — BUT THEY ARE NOT BELIEVED TO BE HERS.

Angelica’s whereabouts remain unknown, and her family is still waiting for answers.

The search continues.
