TUCSON, Arizona — More than 200 days have passed since Nancy Guthrie disappeared.

The 84-year-old mother of NBC TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie was last seen after returning to her Catalina Foothills home on the night of January 31, 2026. She was reported missing the following day after failing to appear at church. Authorities have repeatedly said they believe she was taken against her will.

And despite months of searching, Nancy has still not been found.

A DISAPPEARANCE THAT BEGAN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT

According to investigators, Nancy spent the evening of January 31 with family.

She was dropped off at her home at approximately 9:48 p.m.

Surveillance information later became an important part of the investigation, including footage showing an apparent person of interest near her home.

Authorities believe Nancy was taken sometime after she returned home.

Her phone and essential medications were reportedly left behind, adding to investigators’ concerns about her safety.

THEN CAME THE RANSOM NOTES

The investigation took another extraordinary turn when authorities released two ransom notes received by an Arizona television station.

One note claimed Nancy was alive and demanded millions of dollars in cryptocurrency.

The second contained a dramatically different message, claiming that Nancy had died shortly after she was taken and had been “buried in nature.”

But investigators have warned that not every ransom communication connected to the case should automatically be considered genuine.

The FBI previously determined that some ransom notes were extortion attempts without legitimacy, while other demands continued to be investigated.

That distinction has made an already confusing investigation even more difficult.

HUMAN REMAINS FOUND — BUT POLICE SAY THEY ARE NOT NANCY

One of the most recent developments immediately sparked concern.

Human remains were discovered in a desert area near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard, roughly 15 miles from Nancy’s home.

For a moment, the discovery appeared to raise the possibility of a breakthrough.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said there was no indication at this time that the remains are connected to Nancy’s disappearance. Authorities also said the remains appeared to have been at the location for an extended period.
