8-Year-Old Mason Sundberg Dies After Tree Falls at Massachusetts Summer Camp

Mason Sundberg, 8, of Sudbury, Massachusetts, died after a large tree fell on him while he was attending YMCA Camp Chickami in Wayland on the morning of August 18, 2026.

Mason was seriously injured in the incident and was airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

An adult camp staff member was also injured when the tree fell but has since been released from the hospital.

Mason’s family remembered him as a happy, humorous, and affectionate boy whose presence brought joy to those around him.

“His brightness will be missed, but never forgotten,” his family said.

The tragic accident has left Mason’s family, friends, and the camp community grieving the loss of a young boy remembered for his warmth and joyful spirit.
