KAREN SOLOMON CASE: THE SEARCH ENDS WITH A TRAGIC DISCOVERY

The days-long search for 58-year-old Karen Solomon has ended with a tragic discovery in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Solomon had been wanted in connection with the death of her husband, Worcester Police Officer Kurt Solomon, who was found dead inside their home on August 18. Police later obtained an arrest warrant charging Karen with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.

A MASSIVE SEARCH

Authorities launched an extensive search around Coes Pond and surrounding wooded areas, using police dogs, divers, drones, helicopters and other resources.

Doorbell surveillance had captured Karen walking away from the area shortly after officers were called to the home. Investigators had warned that she could be armed and dangerous.

Then, on August 24, two people discovered human remains in a wooded area near Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital.

Police said the remains were believed to be Karen Solomon. A handgun was reportedly found nearby, and authorities said it was not Kurt Solomon’s police service weapon.

AUTHORITIES NOW CALL IT A MURDER-SUICIDE

Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier said investigators believe the deaths represent a tragic murder-suicide.

Authorities have not released every detail surrounding Kurt Solomon’s death, but earlier investigators said his injuries involved a sharp object.

Police also said there was no known history of domestic abuse involving the couple.

 KAREN’S VERY DIFFERENT PUBLIC LIFE

The case has drawn particular attention because Karen Solomon was known nationally as an advocate for first-responder mental health.

She co-founded First H.E.L.P., an organization dedicated to reducing the stigma surrounding mental-health struggles among law-enforcement officers and supporting families affected by officer suicide. She also authored books about police officers and their experiences.

Meanwhile, Kurt Solomon had served 31 years with the Worcester Police Department and was remembered by colleagues as a dedicated veteran officer and father of two.
