NO CONCLUSION YET: INVESTIGATION INTO FLIGHT ATTENDANT JENNY LUPTON’S DEATH IN HAWAII CONTINUES

HONOLULU, Hawaii — Authorities are still working to determine exactly what happened to Jenny Lupton, a 50-year-old Southwest Airlines flight attendant and mother from Moore, Oklahoma, who was found dead during a work layover in Waikiki.

Lupton was discovered on Aug. 20 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, where she had been staying while in Hawaii for work. Her family was later informed that she appeared to have fallen from a balcony on the hotel’s 24th floor.

But police stress that this does not represent a final determination of how she died.

POLICE SAY THEY HAVE REACHED NO CONCLUSION

The Honolulu Police Department’s Homicide Detail is investigating the circumstances surrounding Lupton’s death as an unattended death investigation.

In a statement, police said that “no conclusions have been made regarding the manner of death.”

Detectives are conducting interviews, reviewing and recovering surveillance footage and examining other evidence as they attempt to reconstruct what happened.

Authorities have also said some information will remain private while the investigation continues in order to protect the integrity of the case.

HER FAMILY IS STILL SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS

Lupton’s relatives have questioned the circumstances surrounding her death.

Her family told PEOPLE and other outlets that they do not believe she died by suicide and are concerned that someone else could have been involved. Those concerns remain allegations from the family, not a conclusion reached by investigators.

The family has also pointed to Lupton’s behavior shortly before her death.

Her sister said Lupton had recently gotten a new tattoo and had spent time with another flight attendant, dancing and enjoying herself. She had also been communicating with relatives in the hours before she was found.

THE MEDICAL EXAMINER HAS NOT FINISHED

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet determined Lupton’s official cause or manner of death.

A spokesperson told PEOPLE that reaching a final determination could take several months, meaning investigators may have to wait for additional forensic findings before the circumstances become clearer.

That leaves a crucial distinction in the case:

Authorities have information suggesting Lupton may have fallen from the hotel, but they have not publicly established why or how that fall occurred.

A 29-YEAR CAREER IN THE SKIES

Lupton had worked as a flight attendant for 29 years and was remembered by relatives and colleagues as a devoted mother.

She was in Hawaii for a work layover and, according to her family, had planned to remain there for several days before returning home.

Her death has left her family and coworkers struggling to understand how a routine work trip could end so tragically.

INVESTIGATORS ARE REVIEWING SURVEILLANCE FOOTAGE

Surveillance video could become one of the most important pieces of evidence.

Police are reportedly reviewing footage from numerous cameras around the hotel and surrounding area as they reconstruct Lupton’s final movements.

Investigators are also conducting interviews and collecting other evidence.

Until that work is completed, officials are urging the public not to spread unverified information about the case.
