Motorcyclist killed in crash on 405 Freeway in San Fernando Valley

A motorcyclist was killed in a tragic crash on the 405 Freeway in Sherman Oaks, California, Wednesday morning, August 26, 2026.
The crash happened shortly before 11:20 a.m. on the southbound 405 Freeway near Burbank Boulevard, just north of the 101 Freeway. According to the California Highway Patrol, the rider fell from the motorcycle for reasons that remain under investigation.

After the rider fell onto the freeway, they were struck by multiple other vehicles traveling through the area. Emergency crews responded to the scene, but the motorcyclist was pronounced dead.
Aerial footage from Sky5 showed authorities at the scene as they investigated the deadly collision. At approximately 12:15 p.m., officials were waiting for the Medical Examiner to arrive while the investigation continued.
Investigators have not yet determined what caused the motorcyclist to lose control and fall from the motorcycle. The circumstances leading up to the crash remain unclear, and authorities are expected to examine evidence from the scene as they work to reconstruct what happened.
The crash caused significant disruption along the southbound freeway while investigators processed the scene. All southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway have since reopened.
