JAKE REINER REVEALS THE “SHOCK” CALL FROM SISTER ROMY AFTER THEIR PARENTS ROB AND MICHELE WERE FOUND DEAD

Eight months after the devastating loss of his parents, Jake Reiner is speaking publicly for the first time about the moment his sister Romy called him with news that changed their family forever.

In an emotional interview with KABC-TV, Jake recalled receiving the shocking call from Romy after she discovered their father, filmmaker Rob Reiner, and their mother, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Los Angeles home.

The conversation marked Jake’s first major public interview since his parents’ deaths and the arrest of his younger brother, Nick Reiner, who has been charged in connection with their deaths.

Jake described the aftermath as a reality he still struggles to accept.

Each morning, he said, he wakes up confronted by the same painful reality: his parents are gone, while his brother is in custody facing serious charges.

The family tragedy has left Jake and Romy to navigate an unimaginable loss together.

Rather than simply losing his parents, Jake said he also feels that he lost his brother in the aftermath of the tragedy.

That sense of losing multiple members of his family at once has made the grieving process even more complicated.

THE CALL FROM ROMY

Romy was the first of the siblings to discover that something was terribly wrong.

After their parents failed to respond at home, Romy went to the residence and discovered their father. Emergency services were subsequently called, and investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Jake recalled the moment Romy contacted him as one of the most shocking moments of his life.

The call immediately changed everything.

What followed was a painful realization that the family would never return to the life they had known.

NICK REINER HAS PLEADED NOT GUILTY

Nick Reiner, the youngest of Rob and Michele’s children, has been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder.

Prosecutors have also alleged special circumstances, including that the killings involved lying in wait.

Nick has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody.

Prosecutors have not yet announced whether they will seek the death penalty. His next major court appearance is scheduled for September 15.

Jake has avoided publicly discussing his brother’s alleged involvement in detail, saying there are aspects of the case he may never fully understand.

One of the most painful aspects for Jake has been remembering how strongly his parents continued to support Nick despite the difficulties he faced.

Jake said Rob and Michele never stopped trying to help their son.

Their relationship with Nick was also reflected in Rob’s professional life. Rob and Nick collaborated on the 2015 film “Being Charlie,” a semi-autobiographical project inspired by Nick’s struggles.

For Jake, those memories make the tragedy even harder to comprehend.

He has struggled to understand how a family that spent years trying to support one another could end up facing such devastation.

A FAMILY TRYING TO MOVE FORWARD

Jake and Romy have remained close as they navigate the aftermath.

The siblings previously described their parents as their “best friends” and have continued honoring their memory publicly.

Earlier this month, Jake and Romy also paid tribute to their father at a Los Angeles Dodgers game, throwing out the ceremonial first pitch in his memory.

But behind those public moments, Jake said the grief remains overwhelming.

He has sought therapy while trying to adjust to a life he never imagined having.

“I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHY”

Despite everything that has happened, Jake said there are questions he may never be able to answer.

Why did this happen?

How did a family that had spent so much time supporting one another reach such a devastating point?

And how does someone move forward after losing both parents while watching a sibling face a potential life sentence or even the death penalty?

For Jake, there may never be a satisfying explanation.

What remains is the memory of Rob and Michele — not simply as Hollywood figures, but as parents who were deeply loved by their children.

Eight months later, Jake is still learning how to live with the new reality created by that devastating phone call.

And alongside his sister Romy, he is trying to carry forward the memory of the parents they say were not only their family, but their closest friends.
