They were subsequently spotted by marked police vehicles.

A pursuit followed through the streets of Middlesbrough.

According to the latest report, the pursuit lasted around seven minutes before the Passat entered the A66 traveling in the wrong direction.

Police then abandoned the pursuit.

The Passat collided head-on with a marked armed-response vehicle carrying PC Matthew Blades, 37, and PC Tom Clough, 38.
