Corbin Rodenberg turned 22 in the hospital, where he remains in critical condition five days after falling from a rooftop bar.

Corbin was hospitalized on Sunday, Aug. 23, after falling from the roof of Harpo’s Bar & Grill in Columbia, Mo., the Columbia Police Department previously confirmed to PEOPLE. On Saturday, Aug. 29, Corbin’s mom, Kaley Rodenberg, celebrated his birthday as he continues to receive treatment for his injuries — which include multiple skull fractures and various broken bones, she previously shared on social media.

“Happy birthday baby boy!” Kaley wrote in a Facebook post on Saturday. “Normally I wait until 10:10 pm to post anything about your birthday for a couple of reasons: one you weren’t born until 10:10 pm so it’s not your birthday yet 😉 and two it aggravates you.”

“But things are different this year,” she continued, “and I’m starting early with your birthday wishes and hoping and praying for another miracle like the one I received 22 years ago. I love you more than anything else Corbin Rodenberg and I will see your smiling face again soon!”

The birthday tribute to her son comes after Kaley shared additional reflections ahead of the milestone.

“I’ve always been the kind of mom who steps in when my child needs me — the one who tries to carry the burdens that feel too heavy for him to carry on his own,” she wrote in a long message on Facebook on Friday, Aug. 28. “This time, I can’t simply step in and make everything better, and that has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to accept.”

Later in the post, the Missouri mom said “one thing has become even clearer” in the wake of Corbin’s hospitalization and amid the outpouring of support that followed: “I am incredibly proud of the impact my kid has made on people in just 21 short years.”

“Seeing how many lives he has touched, how many stories people have shared, and how many people care about him means more to this mom than I could ever adequately put into words,” she wrote of her son, noting that “tomorrow, Corbin turns 22.”

“I believe with everything in me that he still has more smiles to give, more laughter to bring, and more memories to make,” Kaley continued. “I’m holding tightly to that hope and to every bit of positivity I can find.”

Kaley ended the post by asking anyone who reads it to “continue keeping Corbin and the medical professionals caring for him in your thoughts and prayers.”

“This momma knows she has one incredibly strong kid and a huge community of people standing behind him,” she wrote of her 22-year-old son. “I’ll hold on to that hope, love, and positivity with every bit of strength I have. ❤️.”

Kaley has kept her social media followers updated amid her son’s hospitalization, previously sharing that Corbin underwent surgery in which doctors “inserted an EVD [external ventricular drain] to drain fluid from the brain and measure the pressure.” She also shared that he was moved to the neurological intensive care unit.

Corbin is a former student at the University of Missouri, as well as a 2023 graduate of Chillicothe High School, where he played football, ABC affiliate KMIZ previously reported.

In another post shared on his birthday, Corbin’s mom nodded to his love for the sport, sharing an inspirational clip from the Christian football movie Facing the Giants. “Love this movie and it reminds me of a certain #27 ❤️🏈,” Kaley wrote, referring to Corbin’s number when he played.
