Execution Date Set for Man Convicted in Deaths of Two Vanderburgh County Children
Sixteen years after the deaths of two young children in a devastating house fire, Jeffrey Weisheit is scheduled to face execution in Indiana.

The Indiana Supreme Court has ruled that Weisheit has exhausted his appeals, clearing the way for the execution to proceed on November 5. The court’s decision means there is currently no stay preventing the state from carrying out the sentence.

The case dates back to 2010, when authorities said Weisheit deliberately set fire to a home in Vanderburgh County while his girlfriend’s two children were inside.

The victims were 8-year-old Alyssa Lynch and her 5-year-old brother, Caleb Lynch. Despite efforts to save them, both children died in the fire.

Their deaths shocked the local community and left their family facing an unimaginable loss. Alyssa and Caleb were remembered as young children whose lives were cut tragically short.

Following the fire, Weisheit fled the area. Authorities later located him in Kentucky, where he was taken into custody after a high-speed pursuit.

Prosecutors subsequently charged Weisheit in connection with the children’s deaths. After years of legal proceedings, he was convicted in 2013 and sentenced to death.

Since then, Weisheit’s case has continued through the appeals process. His attorneys have challenged aspects of the conviction and death sentence, but the Indiana Supreme Court has now determined that his available appeals have been exhausted.

With the court’s ruling, November 5 has been established as the date for Weisheit’s execution.

The decision brings the case back into the spotlight more than a decade after the conviction. For the victims’ family and those who followed the case, the upcoming execution marks another significant moment in a tragedy that began with the deaths of two children.

Alyssa was only eight years old, while Caleb was just five. Their names remain at the center of a case that has continued through Indiana’s courts for years.
