TWO TEEN BEST FRIENDS WERE HEADING HOME — THEN A HIGH-SPEED CRASH CHANGED EVERYTHING

VICTORVILLE, CALIF. — Maddalyn Dailey and Isabell DeLang were more than friends.

Their families described the two teenagers as “inseparable” — best friends who had known each other since elementary school and shared their lives at Sultana High School.

On Aug. 14, 17-year-old Maddalyn was driving Isabell, 16, home after the two had been together.

Maddalyn was expected to return home afterward for dinner.

Instead, the two girls never made it home.

Now, five people have been arrested as investigators continue to reconstruct the devastating multi-vehicle crash that ended the teenagers’ lives.

TWO CARS, EXTREME SPEEDS AND A DEADLY COLLISION

According to the California Highway Patrol, two vehicles were allegedly traveling at extremely high speeds through a residential neighborhood in Victorville when both became involved in the collision with the vehicle carrying the teenagers.

One of the suspected drivers, 49-year-old George Gary Sanchez, was arrested shortly after the crash.

The second driver, 50-year-old Terry Lamar Easter, allegedly fled the scene in a Chevrolet Camaro.

Authorities spent days searching for Easter before he surrendered to law enforcement on Aug. 26.

The investigation has since escalated into a serious criminal case.

Sanchez and Easter were booked on suspicion of murder and gross vehicular manslaughter with negligence, according to CHP.

Neither man has been convicted, and it remains up to prosecutors to prove the allegations in court.

“INSEPARABLE”

For the families, however, the case is not about police reports or criminal charges.

It is about two teenagers who had their entire futures ahead of them.

Maddalyn’s father, Dustin Dailey, said his daughter and Isabell had been close since elementary school.

They studied together.

They spent time together.

And on the night of the crash, Maddalyn was simply giving her friend a ride home.

Dustin told KTLA that when he heard the impact, he immediately knew something terrible had happened.

“I would do anything to have her back right now,” he said, according to PEOPLE.

THREE MORE PEOPLE ARRESTED

The investigation did not stop with the two alleged drivers.

CHP also arrested three additional people on suspicion of acting as accessories.

They were identified as Ryan James Lewis, 45, of Victorville; Lukevy Shawntell Yates, 49, of Apple Valley; and Madge Wells, 74, also of Apple Valley.

According to authorities, all three cooperated with investigators and were later released.

Their arrests add another layer to an investigation that began with a devastating collision and quickly expanded into a broader criminal inquiry.

A SEARCH FOR ANSWERS

Investigators are now working to establish exactly what happened in the moments before the crash.

Why were the vehicles allegedly traveling at such high speeds?

What happened immediately before the collision?

And what occurred after the impact that led one of the suspected drivers to leave the scene?

Those questions will likely become central as the case moves through court.

For the families of Maddalyn and Isabell, though, the legal process cannot bring back what was lost.

Their loved ones have described both girls as having “so much life ahead” of them.

That is perhaps the most heartbreaking part of the entire case.

Two inseparable friends were on an ordinary drive home.

They were supposed to be thinking about dinner, school and everything waiting for them the next day.

Instead, their families are now planning funerals while investigators work to determine who should ultimately be held responsible.

And five arrests later, one painful question remains:

How did a simple ride home turn into a tragedy that two families will never escape?
