The Grammy winner, 77, checked himself into the ICU out of caution shortly after his performance in St. Louis on Saturday, Aug. 29. TMZ was first to report the news of his hospitalization.

A rep for Richie did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Richie is currently in the midst of his Sing a Song All Night Long tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, and performed on Saturday at The Muny. He is next scheduled to perform on Sept. 26 in San Francisco.

TMZ reported that during the show in St. Louis, he asked his team to bring him a chair while performing his final song, “All Night Long.”

During the show, which was the first of his tour, Richie told the crowd he was feeling dizzy and that he had never previously performed “Dancing on the Ceiling” while seated, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported.

“When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your ass down,” he joked, before sitting down at a piano to perform “Three Times a Lady” and then taking an impromptu intermission, the Star Tribune added.

Richie wound up postponing two shows in the immediate aftermath, as his doctors advised he “rest and return to full health.”

The star returned to the stage on June 30, and joked with the crowd that he “had you worried there for a minute, huh?,” per TribLive.

“You have no idea what I have been through in the last 24 hours, listening to my friends tell me their advice on what I should be doing,” he said.

The star later assured fans he was “doing well” in an Instagram post on July 4.

“Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love. ❤️ I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you,” he captioned the post. “Pittsburgh and Detroit were an absolute joy. The energy, the dancing, the faces in the crowd… we made real memories together. See you in Toronto… let’s party all night long! 🎉”
