💔 SHE HAD JUST RETURNED FROM MATERNITY LEAVE. DAYS LATER, SHE WAS GONE.

Erin Piacenti was only 32.

A rising Bank of America executive.
A Fordham Law graduate.
A wife.
A new mother to a five-month-old baby girl.

And on Monday, she went to work in New York City — never knowing she would never make it home.

Erin had recently returned to work after five months of maternity leave. Just days earlier, she had celebrated her baby’s baptism and her second wedding anniversary with her husband, Frank. She and her family had every reason to believe they were beginning a beautiful new chapter together.

Then, in the middle of Times Square, everything changed.

Police say 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros randomly attacked two people with knives. A 68-year-old man was wounded. Erin was stabbed in the abdomen.

She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital.

But she did not survive.

Cisneros was later confronted by police after refusing repeated orders to drop two knives. Officers deployed Tasers, but they were ineffective. When she advanced toward the officers, two officers opened fire. She later died at the hospital.

Now, behind the headlines is a much more painful story.

A young mother who had only just returned to her career.

A husband who had recently celebrated two years of marriage with her.

A little girl who will grow up without the chance to know her mother in the way every child deserves.

Erin was remembered by Bank of America as a “valued teammate” who will be deeply missed. Fordham Law, where Erin and her husband both graduated, also expressed heartbreak over her death.

There is no explanation that can make a family understand a loss like this.

One moment, Erin was building a future with her husband and newborn daughter.

The next, that future was gone.
