Wyoming Mother Pleads Guilty to First-Degree Murder in Death of 11-Month-Old Son

A Wyoming mother has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the shooting death of her 11-month-old son after prosecutors said she took the child out of state in violation of a court-ordered custody arrangement.

Madeline Veronique Daly, 36, of Wyoming, entered her guilty plea on August 24, 2026, at the Sixth Judicial District Court in Silver City, New Mexico.

The case stems from events in December 2025, when Daly took her son, Basil Stoner, from Wyoming to New Mexico despite a court order that had granted emergency custody of the child to his father.

Basil was subsequently shot and killed inside an RV near Silver City, New Mexico.

Daly’s guilty plea brings the case closer to a conclusion, although the formal sentence has not yet been imposed.

Under the plea agreement, Daly faces life imprisonment and could become eligible for parole after serving 30 years. The judge will determine the formal sentence at a later hearing.

The case has drawn attention because of the custody dispute that preceded the child’s death and the circumstances surrounding Basil’s removal from Wyoming.

Daly’s guilty plea means she has admitted criminal responsibility for the first-degree murder charge. Her final sentence will be determined by the court at a future hearing.
