An Illinois mother allegedly became deeply focused on the Lindsay Clancy murder trial — then, just hours after discussing the case with friends, her two-year-old son was found dead inside the family home.

Corie Walsh, 38, of Frankfort, Illinois, has been charged with murder following the death of her two-year-old son, Barrett.

According to court documents cited by authorities, Walsh had been actively discussing the highly publicized Lindsay Clancy case in a group chat with friends on September 1.

Just hours later, police were called to her home after a neighbor discovered the toddler in the basement.

The case has now drawn national attention because of the disturbing connection to the Clancy trial, which itself had ended in a mistrial just days later.

THE CHILLING TIMELINE

According to prosecutors, Walsh had been discussing the Clancy case with friends until around 12:30 p.m. on September 1.

The child was discovered approximately three and a half hours later.

A neighbor reportedly found Barrett and immediately called 911 while attempting CPR.

Emergency responders arrived, but the little boy could not be saved.

An autopsy later determined that his death was caused by asphyxiation resulting from neck compression, according to court documents.

WHAT WALSH ALLEGEDLY TOLD POLICE

Authorities say Walsh later made deeply disturbing statements about her son.

According to the court filing, she allegedly told officers that she had done this because the child was “the devil” and “the anti-Christ.”

Walsh was also found upstairs after apparently harming herself and was taken to hospital for treatment.

She later allegedly admitted to police what had happened.

Three other children were reportedly inside the home at the time. Prosecutors said they were not harmed.

WHY WAS LINDSAY CLANCY PART OF THE STORY?

The connection to Lindsay Clancy is one of the most unsettling aspects of the case.

Clancy, a Massachusetts mother, was accused of killing her three children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months — in January 2023.

Her defense argued that she was suffering from severe mental illness, including postpartum psychosis, and therefore lacked criminal responsibility.

After weeks of testimony, the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict.

A judge declared a mistrial on September 4, meaning Clancy was neither convicted nor acquitted. Prosecutors could potentially seek a retrial.

“A PSYCHOTIC EPISODE”

Walsh’s attorney, Andrea Lyon, has said her client was experiencing a psychotic episode when the tragedy occurred.

The defense position is significant because prosecutors are seeking to keep Walsh in custody while the case proceeds.

Authorities have also alleged that Walsh made statements indicating she intended to harm other members of her family, although those allegations have not been proven in court.
