“OUR LITTLE ANGEL” — FAMILY MOURNS TWO-YEAR-OLD PETER MULCAIRE AFTER TRAGIC LIMERICK HIT-AND-RUN

A family is mourning the devastating loss of two-year-old Peter Mulcaire, a little boy whose life had only just begun to enter a new chapter.

Peter had recently started preschool.

His family was supposed to be watching him grow, learn and make memories with the people who loved him most.

Instead, they are now preparing to say goodbye.

A TRAGEDY THAT HAPPENED IN MOMENTS

Peter was playing on a toy tractor near his home in Rathkeale, Co. Limerick, when he was struck by a vehicle on Saturday afternoon.

He suffered catastrophic injuries and was taken for emergency medical treatment, but sadly he could not be saved. 

The vehicle did not remain at the scene.

Gardaí later arrested a man in his 30s at another location on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant. He was released after providing an evidential sample, pending analysis. No finding of guilt has been made. 

The investigation remains ongoing.

“BEAUTIFUL BOY”

As news of Peter’s death spread, tributes poured in from relatives, friends and members of the Rathkeale community.

Family members remembered him as a deeply loved little boy, with one tribute describing him as a “golden boy.”

Others simply called him their “little angel.”

Those words now carry a heartbreaking weight.

Peter had only recently begun preschool — a new beginning that should have been filled with first days, new friends and childhood memories.

Instead, his family is facing the unimaginable.

A COMMUNITY IN SHOCK

The tragedy has shaken Rathkeale.

A community event that had been scheduled for Sunday was cancelled out of respect for Peter and his grieving family. 

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who was travelling in the Abbey Court area around the time of the incident to come forward, particularly anyone with dash-cam footage.

A Family Liaison Officer has also been assigned to support Peter’s family as the investigation continues. 

NOW THEY HAVE ONLY MEMORIES

Peter’s family should have been watching their little boy grow up.

They should have been celebrating his first days at preschool.

Instead, they are remembering the smile, the laughter and the precious moments that made him so loved.

For those who knew Peter, he was not a headline or a road-traffic statistic.

He was a son.

A brother.

A grandson.

A little boy who had only just begun his life.

And now, an entire community is mourning the child many are remembering simply as their “beautiful boy” and “little angel.”

Peter Mulcaire was only two years old.

His family will carry his memory forever.
