FOUR PEOPLE ACCUSED IN BABY S CASE NOW FACE ANOTHER SERIOUS ALLEGATION — AND IT CENTRES ON WHAT HAPPENED AFTER HER DEATH

The horrifying Sheffield case has taken another disturbing turn.

Andrea Skopova, 20, Peter Horvath Jr, 19, Peter Horvath Sr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37, are accused of murdering a newborn baby girl known only as Baby S.

But murder is not the only allegation now before the court.

The four adults are also charged with causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice — with prosecutors alleging that this latter offence involved cleaning the scene of the alleged crime.

WHAT HAPPENED TO BABY S?

Baby S was found at a property in the Wincobank area of Sheffield after police were called on August 30 over concerns for the safety of an infant.

Prosecutors told an earlier hearing that the newborn had suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings.

She was found wrapped in a towel and placed inside a blue bag in an outbuilding, where her body was discovered on top of a washing machine.

A postmortem examination confirmed that the cause of death was stab wounds.

THE MOTHER IS AMONG THOSE CHARGED

The prosecution says Skopova is Baby S’s mother.

She is the girlfriend of Peter Horvath Jr, who is the son of the other two adult defendants.

The baby’s father remains unknown and prosecutors told the court that Horvath Jr is not believed to be the father.

A 15-year-old girl has also been charged with perverting the course of justice. Because of her age, she cannot be named.

Two other women, aged 26 and 37, were arrested during the investigation but remain on bail.

THE COURTROOM WAS PACKED WITH FAMILY

When the defendants appeared at Sheffield Crown Court, the atmosphere was described as highly emotional.

All five defendants sat in the glass-fronted dock, surrounded by security staff and accompanied by Slovak interpreters.

Twenty-six relatives watched from the public gallery.

Skopova and the teenage girl reportedly sobbed during the hearing, while members of the gallery were also seen crying.

All five defendants were remanded in custody.

TRIAL DATE SET

Judge Sarah Wright has scheduled the trial to begin on April 12, 2027.

The trial is expected to last between six and seven weeks, with the next hearing listed for October 2, 2026.

The four adults and the teenage defendant have not been convicted of the offences they face.

The allegations will have to be tested in court, and each defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

But one question now hangs over the case:

What exactly happened inside that Sheffield property after Baby S died — and why are prosecutors alleging that the scene was subsequently cleaned?

Those answers may become central when the case reaches trial next year.
