The photos of Lucero may show a quiet little girl, but behind her gentle smile is a journey no child should have to endure.

Lucero, from Texas, was only three years old when she was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in December 2022.

She fought through her first battle and, for a while, her family hoped the hardest days were behind them.

But in September 2025, the leukemia returned.

Lucero underwent CAR-T cell therapy, giving her family another reason to hope. Then, on June 23, 2026, they received heartbreaking news once again — Lucero had relapsed for a second time.

Now, at just six years old, she is facing her third battle with leukemia.

Her mother, Paola, has taken Lucero from Laredo to Houston as the family searches for the best care possible. They recently had their first appointment at MD Anderson, with radiation to Lucero’s eye planned as part of her treatment.

On August 27, Paola said her daughter would be admitted to Texas Children’s Hospital to begin intensive chemotherapy in preparation for a bone marrow transplant, with additional radiation planned for August 30.

Through every appointment, every treatment and every uncertain day, Paola has remained by her daughter’s side.

“She has already been through so much, but she still finds little moments to smile,” her family shared. “We just want her to have the chance to be a child again — to laugh, play and enjoy the simple things.”

For Paola, there is one simple request she keeps returning to:

“Prayers please.”

Her family is asking people to pray for Lucero’s strength, for her treatments to go well, and for a successful transplant.

“Please keep our little girl in your prayers,” her family said. “We are holding onto hope and taking this one day at a time.”

After everything Lucero has faced, her family hopes this chapter will finally lead her toward brighter days.
