Patrick Mahomes’ dad is hoping to support his son at Chiefs games this season despite his probation status.

Patrick Mahomes Sr., 56, is currently on probation in Texas after picking up his third DWI arrest in February 2024. He pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while intoxicated and agreed to five years of probation and one year of “intense supervision,” local news station KETK reported at the time.

Now, the father of the Chiefs quarterback is hoping the court will allow him to travel for the team’s upcoming season. According to court documents obtained and reviewed by Fox 10, Mahomes Sr. filed a motion requesting permission to travel out of state. He’s requesting to visit Kansas City, Las Vegas and Cincinnati, the outlet said.

Mahomes Sr. acknowledged in his filing that he is still required to submit urinalysis testing before and after each trip, per Fox 10. The former MLB player reportedly completed 160 hours of community service and an outpatient treatment program lasting 16 weeks.

The quarterback’s father was arrested for his third DWI arrest just eight days before his son and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in the 2024 Super Bowl. Police said at the time that Mahomes Sr.’s blood alcohol content was 0.23 when an officer pulled him over in Tyler, Texas.

In February 2026, he was arrested again and booked into the Smith County Jail in Texas for allegedly consuming alcohol, Smith County District Attorney Jacob Putman told KLTV at the time.

Mahomes Sr.’s ankle monitor allegedly recorded a high reading of alcohol consumption on Jan. 1. He took urine tests on Jan. 5 and Jan. 9, which both came back negative, TMZ reported, citing court documents.

Patrick and his father opened up about the arrest during an August 2025 episode of ESPN’s original series Chiefs Kingdom. “It was during that Super Bowl. It became a story, and so, I had to answer questions about it. I think just knowing that it hurt me woke him up to know that like, you can’t keep doing the same things,” the younger Mahomes said.

Mahomes Sr. said on the episode, “For him to have to answer questions about me was probably the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever been through in my life. I called him right after and I told him, I said, ‘I’m sorry that it’s taking away from your time and taking away from your focus.’ ”
