THREE-YEAR-OLD GIRL KILLED WHILE CROSSING ROAD WITH HER MOM — ONE DAY AFTER HER BIRTHDAY

A family celebration turned into unimaginable heartbreak when a 3-year-old girl was struck by a car while crossing the street with her mother — just one day after celebrating her birthday.

Elif Mavi Avli was walking with her mother, Merve, in Odunpazari, Turkey, when the tragedy unfolded.

Surveillance footage reportedly captured the terrifying moment the mother and daughter attempted to cross the road. A vehicle driven by 40-year-old Fatos Akil Bilgesoy approached and struck the pair.

Merve suffered minor injuries, but Elif was critically injured in the collision.

Witnesses rushed to help. One passerby was seen carrying the severely injured child and attempting to get her to medical care.

Elif was first taken to a private hospital before being transferred to Eskisehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine Hospital.

Despite emergency treatment, the little girl died from her injuries.

The tragedy came just one day after Elif’s third birthday, making the loss even more devastating for her family.

At her funeral, Elif’s father, Fatih Avli, struggled to put his grief into words.

He said his family had celebrated their daughter’s birthday one day — and buried her the next — while pleading for justice.

Her uncle, Ali Avli, delivered another heartbreaking description of the family’s loss, saying that one day he had been choosing a birthday present for his niece and the next he was choosing her grave.

DRIVER’S ACCOUNT UNDER SCRUTINY

Bilgesoy has reportedly disputed responsibility for the crash.

She said she had been traveling at only around 6 to 12 mph and claimed she immediately applied the brakes. She also said the distance between her vehicle and the mother and child was extremely short and that she was in shock and could not clearly remember every detail.

However, investigators and the family’s legal team have challenged aspects of that account.

According to family lawyer Harun Guncay, an expert report indicated that the driver was at fault and suggested that Elif was dragged approximately 46 feet during the collision.

The family and prosecutors appealed an earlier decision that had placed Bilgesoy under house arrest.

She was subsequently taken back into custody and later appeared in court on suspicion of causing death by negligence.

The investigation remains ongoing.

A FAMILY’S FIGHT FOR ANSWERS

Outside the courthouse, Elif’s mother reportedly broke down after the family’s statement and had to be supported by relatives.

For Elif’s loved ones, the case is no longer simply about a traffic collision. It is about understanding how a little girl who had just celebrated her third birthday could be gone the following day.

Her family is demanding justice as investigators continue examining the evidence, including surveillance footage and expert assessments of the crash.

The case has also drawn attention because Turkish media reports have noted that Bilgesoy is married to Metin Bilgesoy, who serves on the Eskisehir provincial executive board of Turkey’s ruling AK Party.

That political connection does not itself establish wrongdoing, and the investigation into the crash is continuing.

For Elif’s family, however, the central question remains painfully simple:
