All three children hospitalized after a Pike County crash that killed a mother and daughter have been released from the hospital.

As we previously reported, Indiana State Police troopers and emergency crews were were called to a rollover crash in Pike County on Saturday, August 29.

Officials say Amanda Wertman and her daughter Michaela were killed in the crash.

Three children were critically injured as a result of the crash, identified as Theodore Wertman, Oaklie Disney and Amelia Freeland.

As of Monday, September 7, all three children have been released from the hospital.

On Monday, 14 News Reporter Madelyn Hanes sat down with Oaklie and her family at Harvest Church of the Nazarene – a new church in Winslow, Indiana, that opens September 13th.

Oaklie came home Sunday night. Her parents say she is still recovering.

She will wear a neck brace for four to six weeks after spending eight days in the hospital, five of those days in the ICU.

Her parents said she also has double vision, PTSD and post-traumatic amnesia that brings confusion and memory loss.

“She can’t really do a lot of the things she likes to do being in the neck brace because she’s very adventurous. She likes to go to Sky Zone and Urban Air, and all of those places… and that’s going to be on the back burner,” Elizabeth Disney said.

She says the crash has changed her family. They also have two other kids, six-year-old Cailean Disney and two-year-old Kennedie Disney.

“It’s definitely changed us because, like I said, reality sets in. We didn’t even know if she was alive when we got to the hospital because a change of seating position and we would have lost her. So we could have very easily be planning a funeral right now, but instead we are sitting with her,” Elizabeth Disney said.

“It just makes you realize as people we don’t have much control. That’s when our faith comes in handy,” Christian Disney said.

Oaklie said she is looking forward to her first trip out since the crash.

“I’m looking forward to going to Walmart,” she said.

Each student and teacher at her charter school hand-wrote her a card. Her class also sent a video of a student-led prayer.

“Tt always makes me emotional seeing how much people care,” her father, Christian Disney said.

They say they shocked by how much community support they have received. From Churches helping to someone coming to braid Oaklie’s hair while she still is in a neck brace.

“We were not expecting our go fund me to raise as much as it did, it’s very helpful,” she said. “Were very lucky cause a lot of people don’t have that.”
