When Zuzia’s parents welcomed their little girl into the world, they had just one simple dream — that their daughter would be healthy.

But soon after her birth, their lives took an unexpected turn.

Zuzia was diagnosed with iris coloboma and optic nerve coloboma in both eyes, and doctors later discovered that she also had nystagmus, causing involuntary eye movements.

For her parents, it was difficult news to take in. Yet instead of giving up hope, they began a long journey of appointments, rehabilitation and specialist care, determined to give their little girl every opportunity to develop and preserve as much vision as possible.

Recently, doctors told the family that Zuzia may be able to undergo strabismus surgery. The procedure carries risks and will require careful preparation, but her parents are holding onto the hope that it can become another important step in her journey.

Her next detailed assessment is planned for April 2027, when Zuzia will be around 18 months old. Doctors will closely examine her eyes and decide how her first eye procedure should be carried out.

Her parents know that there is no simple cure for her condition, but treatment and rehabilitation may help protect the vision she has and support her development.

Zuzia also struggles with reflux and feeding from a bottle, meaning she needs constant care. The cost of specialist appointments, rehabilitation, formula and travel has placed a heavy burden on the family.

“We don’t want our daughter to be defined by her condition,” her parents shared. “We simply want to give her every chance to discover the world around her — to see our faces, colors and shapes, and to grow up surrounded by love.”

Their journey, they say, is not a sprint but a marathon.

And every appointment, every rehabilitation session and every small step forward brings them closer to the future they dream of for their little Zuzanka.

“We know the road ahead will not be easy, but we will keep walking it with her. As long as there is hope, we will keep fighting for our daughter.”
