5-Year-Old Alabama Boy Meets Bone Marrow Donor Who Helped Save His Life 

A 5-year-old Alabama boy has finally met the woman whose bone marrow donation gave him a chance at a healthier future.

Dewontis “Junior” Groomster Jr., affectionately known as Junior, has been living with Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affects the immune system and the body’s ability to control bleeding.

As part of his treatment, Junior needed a bone marrow transplant. His donor, Carolyn Daniels of Oklahoma, made the life-changing decision to donate for a child she had never met.

Recently, their paths finally crossed at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham, where Junior and Daniels met in person for the first time.

It was an emotional moment for everyone involved. For Junior and his family, it was a chance to meet and thank the woman whose generosity became such an important part of his medical journey.

For Daniels, the meeting was just as meaningful. After donating to help a child she did not know, she finally had the opportunity to see Junior and learn more about the little boy whose life had been touched by her decision.

Daniels said that when she finally met Junior, she experienced an unexpected feeling of familiarity. Although they had never met before, she felt as though she already knew him.
