Nearly four decades after Erik and Lyle Menendez killed their parents inside their Beverly Hills home, their long-running case has taken another unexpected turn.

The California Board of Parole has granted the brothers an early parole suitability hearing, now tentatively scheduled for March 2027 — roughly 17 months earlier than they were previously expected to appear again.

That does not mean Erik or Lyle is being released.

It means they will have another opportunity to convince the parole board that they are suitable for release.

The development comes after both brothers were denied parole in 2025, with their prison conduct playing a significant role in that decision.

Their sentences were later reduced to 50 years to life, making them eligible for parole because Lyle was 21 and Erik was 18 when their parents were killed in 1989.

For years, the brothers have maintained that they acted out of fear after enduring years of alleged abuse by their father.

Prosecutors have argued a very different story — that the killings were driven by money and the brothers’ desire to inherit their parents’ wealth.

Now, the question that has followed this case for decades is coming back into focus:
