A massive search is continuing in one of Australia’s most remote rainforest regions after a 31-year-old man disappeared without returning from a walk.

Ariel Simon, a Rainforest Rescue employee, was last seen entering bushland near Cape Tribulation Road in Cow Bay, Queensland, at around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, September 7.

Five days later, there is still no confirmed sighting of him.

Police, State Emergency Service volunteers, specialist search crews, helicopters and local residents have been working through the Daintree area as concerns for Simon’s welfare continue to grow.

And for those who know him, one detail keeps standing out:

This disappearance is completely out of character.

THE LAST KNOWN SIGHTING

According to Queensland Police, Simon was seen entering bushland in the Cow Bay area on Monday afternoon.

He did not return.

The search was launched after authorities were alerted that he had failed to come back, with crews focusing on bushland around Buchanan Creek Road and nearby areas.

The Daintree region is vast, heavily forested and difficult to search, creating major challenges for rescuers.

Police and SES teams have been seen moving through the surrounding roads and bushland while aircraft have been assisting from above.

A MESSAGE ONE DAY BEFORE HE DISAPPEARED

One detail from the day before Simon vanished has also attracted attention.

On September 6, he reportedly posted a short message on Facebook:

“Good morning! Sending love. Peace out.”

There is no indication that the message was connected to his disappearance, and authorities have not publicly suggested that it carried any particular meaning.

But with Simon still missing days later, it has inevitably become part of the timeline being examined by those searching for him.

FAMILY “GRAVELY CONCERNED”

Those close to Simon have described his disappearance as highly unusual.

Rainforest Rescue CEO Brandon Barber said the organization was deeply concerned for Simon and praised the efforts of police, SES volunteers and members of the local community involved in the search.

Simon is also known to have experience in rainforest environments through his work.

Yet despite that experience, authorities have not been able to establish where he went after entering the bushland.

A MAN WHO WOULD BE HARD TO MISS

Police have released a distinctive description in the hope that someone may have seen Simon.

He is:

• 31 years old
• Caucasian
• Approximately 210 centimetres tall
• Slim build
• Long blonde hair

His unusual height makes him particularly distinctive.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen Simon, or who may have CCTV, property cameras or other information from the area, to come forward.

THE SEARCH CONTINUES

As the search enters its fifth day, crews continue checking the surrounding bushland and access roads.

Local residents have also been assisting authorities, while aircraft have been deployed to search areas that are difficult to reach from the ground.

There has been no confirmed public indication that Simon has been located.

There has also been no confirmed explanation for why he entered the bushland or what happened afterward.
