A Florida couple was married in a hospital on Saturday after the groom was injured in a head-on crash while on his way to the wedding venue, according to the couple’s attorneys.

Kapri DeRamus suffered two broken arms, a broken jaw, a broken rib and a cut to the knee in the crash, according to the Osborne, Francis & Pettis Law Firm. DeRamus was released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon, according to a press release.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday when a vehicle crossed a traffic lane and struck the car that DeRamus was taking to a venue in Altamonte Springs, the law firm said.

The crash sent three people to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Altamonte Springs Police Department.

“His bride-to-be got a call just an hour before the wedding ceremony that her future husband was in an accident and was being transported to the hospital. She and her family who were gathered for the wedding immediately drove to ORMC where Mr. DeRamus was being treated,” according to the release. “But instead of postponing their nuptials, after Mr. DeRamus was stabilized, the couple opted to gather their friends later that evening while he was still in a hospital bed at ORMC to tie the knot.”

DeRamus’ grandfather reportedly officiated the service.

“(DeRamus) was hospitalized with serious injuries so rather than saying ‘I do’ at the events center they selected in Altamonte Springs, the bride, Tyasia Thomas, and groom instead said their vows in a multipurpose room at ORMC later that evening,” according to the release.

An online fundraiser has been started to help the couple pay for medical expenses and loss of income.
